BECOME A FREEMASON

Want to be Freemason simple. ‘Ask one to be one’

If you have an interest in joining Freemasonry, you have taken your first step in the right direction. Freemasonry can be such a diverse interest and has the potential for a lifelong affair that gives back continually. The beauty of how Freemasonry works, is you only need to commit what you want or can, in time and effort. Tasks and roles are never forced upon you, Freemasonry will never ask you to place family, work or important interests ahead of what you want to get out of Freemasonry and how you can help Freemasonry in return.

Finding a Lodge to join is normally about location and meeting the existing members to help give you that understanding of who, where and when, as lodges meet on different days, different locations, and with different goals or aims. If you are interested in joining Freemasonry, the Borough of Woolwich Lodge would love to help you start that journey.

Freemasons meet all across the U.K, in Masonic halls, hotels, livery halls and other venues. Most Lodges meet four to eight times a year, usually in the late afternoon and early evening (though some meet on Saturdays) and will usually include a dinner after the meeting. It is important to identify whether a Lodge’s location and meeting days/times are convenient for you, so that you can commit to a regular attendance without damaging your family or work commitments. You should also be able to bear the financial commitment (subscriptions, an expectation of contributions to charitable funds, dining fees, regalia etc).

Above all, no one should undertake membership which may adversely affect his family, employment or other non-Masonic commitments. A Freemason may join more than one Lodge and visit other Lodges as a guest, so a change of home or job should not necessarily cause difficulties. Lodges meet all over the UK, and indeed all over the world.
